Last February 2012, my husband and I had an event to celebrate our union. We scouted for possible venues that can accommodate 80 persons plus ample space for entertainment.
Our non-negotiables:
– Quality plated food
– Nice tables and chairs (preferably made of wood) that will not require skirts and bows
– Sufficient parking space
– Cozy venue that doesn’t look dated
Our options were two 4 star hotels wherein our event will be held in one of their function rooms and Vatel Restaurant Manila. The two hotels recommended buffet style set-up because plated food service will require them to allocate more waiters for our function, thus, will result to increase in cost.
We decided to go with Vatel Restaurant Manila, an application fine dining restaurant of DLSU’s HRM and culinary students located at the roof deck of CSB Hotel/ Angelo King International Center because of the following reasons:
- The place is sufficient for 80 persons with a decent receiving area overlooking Metro Manila.
- Ample parking slots.
- It is well lit with nice ceiling, wooden tables and chairs.
- They offered the best package.
- They have sufficient food servers and chefs to handle a plated food service for 80 persons at no additional cost.
Photos were taken during ocular.
Table set-up during our event.
The 6 course plated menu for adults is priced at Php615/head inclusive of refillable iced tea (We were lucky to avail their 2011 rates because we started communicating with them 6 months prior to our event.). Our adult menu consisted of canapé, soup, appetizer, sorbet, entrée and dessert.
Canape: 3 kinds of canapé
Soup: Pumpkin soup with chicken liver port wine mousse on croutons
Appetizer: Smoked chicken salad with pineapple dressing
Sorbet: Piña Colada sorbet
Main Course: Koulibiac of salmon with red bell pepper sauce or beef bourguignon with potato gratin
Dessert: White chocolate crepe with fresh fruits and strawberry-mint ice cream
We also requested for a kids menu inclusive of pasta (spaghetti carbonara), chicken (fried chicken fingers), dessert (mango crème brûlée) and orange juice.
They charge a minimal amount of Php 2,000 for electricity and exclusive use of venue for 3 hours. They also do not offer free food tasting but we don’t mind because the package they gave us was very reasonable.
We were delighted with their service because of the consistent superb quality of food. Also, the student chefs and food servers were very cautious with their work and were very polite to our guests.
I highly suggest this venue for special intimate celebrations such as anniversaries, wedding receptions, reunions, birthday parties and launch events.
Budget Journal
Our budget was Php 120,000 inclusive of miscellaneous expenses. We saved Php 28,230 because we only spent Php 91,770.
Budget tips:
- To cut down on cost, you may opt to bring your CD collection and have it played during your event. The venue has a good sound system and decent piped-in music.
- If possible, opt for a luncheon than a dinner event to minimize cost of alcoholic beverages.
- Vatel Restaurant Manila can customize a package based on your budget. They also offer buffet food service.
Vatel Restaurant Manila is located at the roofdeck of CSB Hotel, Arellano Ave corner Estrada St. Malate, Manila, Philippines
