Our family recently stayed at the newly opened Solaire Resort North in Vertis North, Quezon City, which welcomed guests in May 2024.
We booked an overnight stay, mainly for convenience, since we needed to be in the area for a day while my mom attended business. It was good that we only planned for one night because while the hotel looked impressive in certain aspects, several issues made our stay less enjoyable, especially from a family-friendly perspective.
First Impressions
The hotel’s grand lobby features a striking Mangrove installation and plenty of seating for check-in guests and visitors. As you enter, the automated curtains reveal a panoramic view of Quezon City’s urban landscape, including developed and underdeveloped areas.

Our bathroom was clean and well-sized, with a bathtub, his-and-hers sinks, and complete amenities. These details were appreciated. However, beyond this, nothing else stood out in terms of creating a warm or memorable guest experience.

🚩 Areas for Improvement
While I want to remain objective, I believe it’s important to highlight a few key concerns families should be aware of before booking:
1. Dining Spaces Exposed to Smoke
The only smoke-free dining options are on the 6th floor, specifically Fresh Restaurant and the Pool Bar Café. Unfortunately, the restaurants in the lobby, especially the food court on the 3rd floor, smell strongly of cigarette smoke, as these areas are adjacent to or connected to the casino.
This can be an issue if you’re traveling with children or prefer a non-smoking environment. This setup feels inconsistent for a hotel promoting family-friendly amenities such as a water park and kids’ club.
2. In-Room TV Malfunction
During our stay, our TV repeatedly powered on by itself, even after we manually switched it off several times. I called customer service for assistance and was told to turn it off again, which we had already tried.
Eventually, an engineering staff member arrived and explained that the issue was linked to marketing content updates, which caused the TV to power on automatically. Unfortunately, this happened from around 11 PM to past midnight, disrupting our children’s sleep.
Solaire Resort North needs to understand that not all guests are visiting for casino entertainment, and not everyone is awake during these late hours. If the hotel promotes itself as a family-friendly resort, such disruptions should be avoided at night.
3. Inconsistent Service & Communication
The next morning, I attempted to call the front desk to request a late checkout since our kids had slept in due to the TV issue. However, my call was transferred, the line disconnected, and the phone no longer had a dial tone. I had to call again, this time using my mobile phone, to repeat my request, which added unnecessary frustration to an already exhausting morning.
4. Limited Breakfast Options for Families
When we finally headed for breakfast, I was surprised to learn that à la carte options weren’t available. The hotel only offers a buffet breakfast, and restaurants do not open until 11 AM. This is inconvenient for families with young children or those who prefer a light breakfast.
5. Slow Checkout Process
The checkout process was notably slow, and the staff appeared inexperienced. The receptionist frequently sought help from his manager to handle routine transactions. This situation highlights the need for additional staff training in a premium hotel brand.
🌊 Amenities Our Kids Enjoyed
To be fair, there were aspects of the hotel that the kids did enjoy:
- Waterpark – A decently sized play area for kids and families.
- Swimming Pool – This pool features a kid-friendly shallow section shaped like an “L,” but it can get crowded. It’s not ideal for lap swimming.
- Resort-style Cabanas – A nice spot to relax while supervising the kids.

Final Thoughts: Would We Stay Again?
While Solaire Resort North has potential and offers some family-friendly features, I cannot recommend it for families now.
If you are looking for an overnight stay with kids in Quezon City and prefer non-smoking environments, minimal late-night disruptions, and consistent service, there are better hotel options in the area that can provide a smoother experience.
For families willing to spend on quality bonding time, consider other Quezon City hotels better suited to parents and children.
